Mt Pilot Tourist Farm, Chiltern, Victoria, Australia

We’ve just come back from a three day short stay at the Mt Pilot Tourist Farm. I was with my family (includes 1 hubby and one 7yo girl) and our two dogs (one small and one large). We were very lucky with the weather, apart from a very wild thunderstorm last night, which terrified Alfie and dumped 30mm of rain. Had a great day yesterday with loads of walks and a trail ride.
Pros:
Owners are lovely and welcoming, with Ray being a total kid magnet who patiently allowed our daughter to “help”.
Dogs are allowed in the cabins.
Cabins were clean and appointed with OK basic amenities, such as kitchen, tv, dvd player, microwave, etc. Two bedrooms and could sleep 5 or 6 at a squeeze.
Fantastic place for kids. Swing set, basketball hoop and large safe trampoline to play on. Plenty of space to run around.
Loads and loads of animals (cows, horses, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, turkeys, guinea fowl, bunnies, ferrets, llamas, goats, Canadian elk, pig, dogs) with kid participation encouraged for helping feed, etc.
Horse trail rides with very well behaved horses and responsible ride leader (Ray).
Wonderful area to walk around with bush walks close by.
Only 10 mins from Beechworth.
Cons:
Cabins are tiny! Would be very uncomfortable with persons of large stature or with more people and dogs than we had.
Only double beds (one double in one room and a loft bed with double lower and single upper).
No real off lead area to allow dogs to run (which was a problem as Gracie won’t poo on lead).
Daughter would love to go back – she had such a great time – but I found the limitations a bit difficult.
Would definitely recommend it to anyone but would also make them aware of those limitations.
